Over the past couple of months N has been fascinated with tales of Indian mythology, of the fight between good and evil and of the various Indian gods and demons.
Calvin and Tintin and Asterix and Obelix on the one hand and tales of the Dashaavathara, Ramayana and Mahabharatha on the other.
Over the weekend, he was narrating the story of Lord Narasimha, Hiranyakashipu and Prahalad to his grandparents and eventually he came to the question of why gods and demons always seemed to be fighting.
He answered his own question and said the demons were fighting to take over god's lands. Then he said, nodding wisely, "Yeah, the demons wanted Kerala because it's god's own country."

There is a new DVD for kids "Hanuman", rent it out for him he will enjoy it..

Charu, he hasn't started on Amar Chitra Katha yet, but the stories he's reading are in that format. You're right, it's time we got him some of those. I had volumes and volumes of them...
Rajeshwari and Sakshi, someone said Hanuman was unnecessarily gory. I'd planned to take him to the movie theater when it was released, but a friend who'd seen it with her son was very upset. I'll get the DVD, you can always fast forward the gory stuff.

And yeah...the Hanuman animation is fun (actually, being an animation and anime buff, i can say with conviction that the animation is excellent, but the dialog and the voices could have done with much more, and less cheese).

How old is N? Kids can say some of the most interesting things.
My son (who is now 7) showed some interest in Amar Chitra Katha comics last year. Maybe a trip to India will refuel some interest.

Michael, he's 5 and a 1/2. Although he had a few Indian mythology books when we were in VA, he got really interested in this stuff after we moved here. So you're right, the exposure does help.
