Redbook, supposedly the magazine for a "mature" audience, is in some hot soup this week following a behind-the-scenes look at the machinations to "fix" Faith Hill's cover photo. Jezebel.com got a hold of the "before" picture and has helpfully created an animation that jumps between the before and after verions of the country music star's image. Here's a blow-by-blow account of the the fixes if you want more details.
It's mesmerizing.

Geez. What do you say to that other than no wonder we all feel so physically inadequate. Can't complete with Photoshop. Sad. I am going to forward it to all of my teenage daughters though. Hopefully it will help them...
LOL, funny (and not a little catty) article. Didn't Time or Newsweek get into trouble for the same kind of thing a year or so ago?

Cindy, this was an eyeopener. Let me know what your girls say. :)
BPSK, which one is that? Not coming to me right now.
Couldn't find the one I was referring to, but here's a link to 9 doctored covers (including 2 Redbook ones)

Hi Sujatha,
I stumbled across your blog-particularly this post on Faith Hill's photoshopping--and I thought you might be interested in joining Dove's Campaign For Real Beauty. It would be great to have your genuine support for this positive, self-esteem message.
My name is Victoria, and I've been asked by Dove to help raise awareness for their self-esteem programs and to help find passionate and genuine real beauty advocates to be part of this online community of supporters.
If you’re interested, I would love to give you an ‘inside look’ at the Self Esteem Fund and Dove’s new initiative for girls, an online reality series designed to give teens a reality check on factors that can impact their self-esteem.
To learn more about how to really get involved in supporting this message, as well as the Dove Self Esteem Fund, please be sure to visit www.rocketxl.com/dsef/assets.htm
Please let me know if you’re interested or would like to get involved in spreading this message. We would love to have your voice be included and for as many young women as possible to hear the Dove message supporting their self-esteem.
Thanks for your time,
Victoria

Victoria, I've already written about Dove's campaign here - http://blogpourri.blogspot.com/2007/08/womans-worth.html
Don't know if I have the time to get involved now, but do send me the information. It sounds interesting.
Thanks Sujatha... I would love to share more information about a new project called the "Dove Reality Diaries" that focuses on the real-life challenges faced by Four girls. You can see the series here: www.doverealitydiaries.com . I'd love to hear your opinion on it!
