Karwa Chauth: Lovely essay in Washington Post Magazine

Here's Anu Kumar's well-written essay in this past weekend's Washington Post Magazine about Karwa Chauth from the perspective of a woman torn between her feminist ideals and nostalgia for a time gone by.

Interesting article - I missed this one (must have been part of the stash that got thrown out, unread), so thanks for posting it.

Reading the bit in her story about the declined lunch reminded me of the time I worked for a Jewish boss, who was very observant. On Yom Kippur, he had no issues taking the day off and spending it at the synagogue.

As Indians feel more comfortable expressing our religious beliefs, maybe we will reach that stage as well.
